Categories of Membership

Ordinary Membership

Ordinary members have full Clubhouse and playing privileges, subject to the general rules established by the Board, and shall be entitled to nominate, vote, and hold office. They may propose or second a candidate for membership in the Club.

Ordinary members are:

  1. those persons twenty-one years of age and over who shall be proposed, elected and admitted as Ordinary members pursuant to the procedures set out in the Club's By-laws.

  2. any Associate or Social member who applies to the Board to transfer to Ordinary membership and whose application is approved by the Board.

They shall not exceed 405 in number.

Associate Membership

Associate members have the same Clubhouse privileges as Ordinary Members. Golf play privileges are as follows (and may be subject to change):

Main Course Playing Privileges:

  • Monday
    8:00 a.m. - 12:22 p.m., 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., from 5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday
    6:30 a.m. - 12:22 p.m., from 2:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday
    6:30 a.m. - 12:22 p.m., 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., from 5:00 p.m.
  • Thursday
    6:30 a.m. - 12:22 p.m., from 5:00 p.m.
  • Friday
    6:30 a.m. - 12:22 p.m., 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., from 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday
    from noon
  • Sunday
    from 11:00 a.m.
  • Holiday:
    from 11:00 a.m.

Associate members are not be entitled to nominate, vote or hold office but may propose or second the application of a candidate for election to the Club as outlined in Section 3.

The Board may from time to time establish the maximum number of Associate members, provided that the total number of Ordinary and Associate members shall not exceed 810.

Intermediate Membership

Intermediate members are all those persons twenty-one years of age or over and who have not yet reached their thirty second birthday.

At any time during the period of membership, Intermediate members may, upon their written request, have their names placed on the waiting list, and will automatically become an Ordinary in their turn provided the Entrance fee is paid in full.

When Intermediate members reach the age of thirty-two, their names will, upon their written request, be placed on the waiting list, and they will automatically become Ordinary members in their turn. If their names are placed upon the waiting list they will be permitted, during the waiting period, to continue as Intermediate members paying the same annual fee as if they were Ordinary members.

Intermediate members have the same Clubhouse privileges as Ordinary members but are not be entitled to nominate, vote or hold office. They have Ordinary playing privileges.

The number of Intermediate members who were not Junior members at the time of their proposal for membership shall not exceed forty.

Social Membership

Social Members have the same Clubhouse privileges as Ordinary members but shall not play or practice on the courses or practice areas nor be entitled to nominate, vote, or hold office. The Board may from time to time limit the number of Social members as a whole or by categories of eligibility.

Social members may play the Royal Nine after 3:00 pm on Sundays with no green fee charge. They may be introduced as a green fee paying guest, up to four times per year on each course, when accompanied by a playing member.

The spouses of current Ordinary, Special Ordinary, Privileged Ordinary or Life members are eligible to become Social members without paying entrance fees or annual fees under certain restrictions.

Junior Membership

Junior members are persons six years or over, who have not reached their twenty-first birthday, and who are relatives of a member.

A total of 30 Junior members, ages ten years or over, who are not relatives of a member may be admitted, provided they are proposed by an Ordinary or Associate member who assumes full responsibility for the non-related Junior.

Junior members, from ages six to nine years old, would be allowed access to the Clubhouse, practice areas and the Royal Nine, not to the Main Course, and shall at all times be accompanied by an Ordinary, Associate or Intermediate member.

The member proposing a Junior member shall be responsible for ensuring that the Junior member observes the rules of the Club, and for any indebtedness to the Club incurred by such Junior member.

Special Membership (Ordinary and Associate)

Special members shall be all those persons twenty-one years of age or over whose occupation or whose spouse's occupation is, in the opinion of the Board, of such a nature as to indicate that their period of residence in Ottawa/Gatineau area may be of a relatively short duration . At the end of five years from the date of such admission, upon the member's written request, the Special member's name shall be placed on the Ordinary or Associate members waiting list, as the case may be, and they shall automatically become an Ordinary or Associate member, as the case may be, in their turn.

Special members have the same Clubhouse and playing privileges as Ordinary or Associate members, as the case may be, but are not be entitled to nominate, vote or hold office.

They will not exceed 25 in number in the case of Ordinary or Associate separately.

Privileged Membership (Ordinary, Associate and Social)

Privileged members (Ordinary, Associate and Social) are those members proposed, elected and admitted as Privileged members pursuant to the procedures set out in this By-law, from the following, namely:

  • Current ministers of the Crown, Leader of the Official Opposition and their spouses;
  • Current Secretary to the Governor General and his/her spouse;
  • Ambassadors, High Commissioners and other Heads of Missions accredited to the Government of Canada, and up to two other senior members of their diplomatic staff and their spouses;
  • members of temporary Commissions, Committees and other investigative bodies, appointed by the Government of Canada, who do not normally reside within 160 kilometers of the Club and their spouses.

Privileged membership will cease when the member ceases to be in one of the above categories. The Board may approve the temporary continuation of such membership when a member otherwise becomes ineligible to remain as such, provided the member has in the meantime been proposed, elected and placed on the waiting list for Ordinary, Associate or Social membership pursuant to the procedures set out in this By-law. They shall have the same Clubhouse and playing privileges as Ordinary, Associate or Social members, as the case may be, but are not be entitled to nominate, vote or hold office; The Board may from time to time limit the number of Privileged members as a whole or by categories of eligibility.
